The Luxe - Anna Godbersen (2008)

Manhattan, turn of the century, arranged marriages, ploys for power, and falling in love with the wrong man. A lot of my favourite things.

In a lot of ways this is Gossip Girls turn-of-the-century style. It is truth, lies, love, honour, family duty, loss, heartbreak, and stratified social classes. Rich idle woman dependant upon money, money that strictly speaking, isn't theirs.

I have to admit, this wasn't what I expected. Despite how the previous two paragraphs may contradict this, I really liked the first book.

It is worth a go, just beware of sequels.
